I finished making updates to the tank. The new filter has been in there for about 24 hours and there are no signs of a crash so far. In fact, everyone appears to be doing great. I will probably test every other day out of an abundance of caution.
One thing I am worried about is how much sand ended out on top of my monte carlo. While I'm hoping it will even out the slowly growing carpet, it might also be too much, I guess we'll see. I will probably try to clear off some of the sand throughout the week.
I finally added a little shrimp hide to the left corner. They seem to be enjoying it and I have seen 8 or so of them in there all at one time. This is a custom 3D printed design I made which I will eventually upload to Printables.
While I wasn't initially planning to do this, a few weeks ago I purchased way too much Weeping Moss for a micro tank I am building out. I decided to add some of it to the spider wood in the middle of the tank.
I attached it with small bands of cut up weight metal. I'm hoping the moss will eventually attach itself to the wood and I can remove the weights.
The idea with weeping moss is that is a "downward growth pattern" meaning eventually it will hang downward on the wood which I think would look pretty cool. I have never used this moss before, so we will see how it does.
The tank definitely needs a trim, especially the rotella, but I will let things settle for a week or so before doing anything else. I have also observed shrimplets after making these changes, so as far as I can tell they were not too stressed by all the activity in the tank.
